MaD RippeR was born of a solo studio project created by multi-instrumentalist Sir NORBYLANG(Norbert LANGANAY) in August 2009.
After four instrumental demos and a lyrical version of “Jack is Back” in 2011, Norbert joined forces with vocalist (Alexandre DUFFAU) and solo guitarist (Guillaume LANDEAU) to work together remotely to create “Shadow of Death”, bringing to life all the tracks from Mad Ripper’s original instrumental album “A night in Whitechapel”.
With influences from Iron Maiden, Metal Church, Demons & Wizards, Mercyful Fate, Trouble, and Candlemass, this original collection is supported by Alex’s lead vocals which add depth and dimension to the tracks while still staying true to the composer’s vision. The aim always being to divert the listener with multiple changes of tempo and by presenting an oppressive and perhaps aggressive but always melodic atmosphere.
Norbert subsequently created a partnership with a fan, Mickael DURAND who wrote nearly half the lyrics on the album.
Mad Ripper isn’t simply Norbert’s project, it is a wonderful collaboration where the sum of its parts are far greater than the elements within it.
