Originally formed in 2013 by guitarist Jeff Wilson and drummer Fernando Villalobos, Sludgehammer’s initial lineup came together with the addition of bassist/vocalist Daniel Ayers and lead vocalist Christopher Szarota. By the end of the year they released a demo which gained considerable ground. 2014’s Organ Harvester introduced Dan Ayers as a co vocalist, creating a unique sound that molded Sludgehammer into the band it is today. By the time they recorded the follow up, 2016’s The Fallen Sun, they had recruited guitarist Tyler Williams, who also proved to be a great recording engineer. With two guitar players, two vocalists and a crushing rhythm section, The Fallen Sun sounded massive and propelled Sludgehammer to much higher ground. The album was recorded and mixed by guitarist Tyler Williams, which gave Sludgehammer ultimate control over the final product. Unfortunately, the band parted ways with vocalist Chris Szarota 6 months after The Fallen Sun was released and Josh Stephney was brought on board to complete the album cycle. With the lineup finalized, Sludgehammer hit the road and laid waste to every stage they set foot on, showing their fans that they were now stronger than ever. After a few successful tours in support of The Fallen Sun, it was time to start writing the next record which will be the first to feature new vocalist Josh Stephney. The new material became less experimental than The Fallen Sun, focusing on writing the “sick riffs” and “heavy, versatile music” that their fans love, Sludgehammer are preparing to unleash a monstrous album in 2018. Whether on the road or in the studio, Sludgehammer deliver the goods with astounding precision and the confidence of a world class band. Stay tuned!
