Formed in early 2015, Italian melodic hardcore quintet What We Lost continue to emerge as an impressive European talent. They’re indeed holding their own with some of the genre’s leading upandcomers on an international level. I got the chance to talk to vocalist Simone Galleoti about the band’s upcoming project and their POV on the Italian hardcore scene. Check it out below!
Hello Simone. Hope you’re doing great? First of all, thanks for taking time to chat with me. For those who are not familiar with your band, could you please introduce yourselves, as well as your roles in What We Lost? Hi Valentine, for sure, this is our line-up:
Simone Galeotti – Vocals
Riccardo Ibatici – Guitar
Lorenzo Di Girolamo – Guitar
Enrico Tosti – Bass
Andrea Barbieri – Drums
Over the years, I also had the chance to work and feature many Italian bands. I’m glad we finally have the chance to feature you as well! From your own POV, how would you describe the Italian hardcore scene overall? Italian ‘core’ scene in general is vivid and well developed. In Italy there are not so many proper melodic hardcore bands, even though the genre is slowly growing.
Back in the fall of 2017, you’ve release your single ‘Beds’ via Dreambound. Can we talk about this single? What’s the story behind this song? Our single ‘Beds’ means the world to us, it made us grow a lot as a band in any sense. We started writing the song during a hard period (due to a line-up change) and the process takes several months.
With this song we changed style a bit from our first ep: our influences started changing and we decided to search for a more proper sound. ‘Beds’ is an extremely personal song for our singer and it’s about the end of a love, described from the point of view of the person who choose to break up.
Spring 2018 will see a new single and video from your band. Can you tell us more about your upcoming projects? We are currently writing new songs, but at the moment we can’t tell you more. We have several shows booked all over Italy for next months and we are planning a tour to hit Europe/UK before the end of 2018.
Last but not least, what would you say has been the biggest highlight of your band’s career so far? One of the biggest highlight of our career was sharing the stage with Alazka, Casey and Acres in occasion of the release of our first ep, ‘Shades’. We played with them in our hometown in 2016, that was one of our best night so far.
Thanks for your time! Thank you for the interview, it’s been a pleasure.
