Hello HAUMEA, thanks for your time. Would it be possible to introduce your band to our readers, as well as your roles in it?

Hello readers! We are HAUMEA, a metal rock band from Normandy in France. The group consists of Niko on vocals, Lea on bass, Andy on guitar, and myself, Seb, on drums.

We all come from the metal, grindcore, deathcore or harunk punk universe, except Niko who comes from French rock. The big interest of this training is that the influences are diverse and varied…

Deftones, Gojira, Alter Bridge, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Iggy Pop, but also closer to us such as Serge Gainsbourg or Alain Bashung

How do you spend your time during quarantine?

Being in confinement is quite complicated, especially since we just released our new album on March 31st. We try as best as we can to defend it via the reviews, interviews… even if our favorite place remains the scene where we love to produce.

Therefore, individually, we take care of our families, some continue to work either on site or via telecommuting. We try to work our songs or new ones by writing future texts.

You’ve released back in March a music video for your single “Breath”. What’s the story behind this song?

Yes, we released on our YouTube channel our second music video on March 5th entitled “Breath”, extract from the EP “Leaving” released on March 31st.

The idea of this music video is to show how an addiction such as alcohol can lead to loneliness and loss of bearings. However, even if the clip is dark, there is a final glimmer of hope because the protagonist of the clip is visualizing his own decline. Will he react? It’s up to you to find out by watching and sharing this clip.

How was the shooting experience? Any funny stories to share with our readers?

The experience was as pleasant as the first time, except that this time, the video clip was filmed almost only outdoors during the fall. So, we have to do it with natural elements. The other important thing is that for this clip we decided not to appear with our instruments but as actors. For the second time we trusted Mathias Ledauphin of Lias Impreza to shoot this clip.

A very funny fact during the shooting, in particular on the sequences where Niko is lying on the ground in funeral costume, roses are thrown from the top of a ladder. And on several occasions, Seb threw them in the face of Niko, in the eyes, the nostrils, … very complicated not to laugh and be forced to start the sequence over.

How’s your usual writing process for your songs?

Most simple in the world, I think. Andy brings the guitar riffs. Seb and Léa compose their respective parts. And from there follows the period when the musical arrangements are created by all the members. Niko brings texts either written beforehand or written on the spot because we are also working a lot on the instantaneity of our desires. The co-writing was also done on the title “Bones”. The choice is made to sing in English or French, or even both mixed.

The last words are for you. If you have a message to convey, here’s your chance!

A big thank you to Roger from Replica Promotion because without him, we would not have these opportunities for interviews and reviews. We hope to get back on stage very quickly because beautiful things are to come. And as final words, support the rock metal scene, go to our Facebook page, on our YouTube channel, like, share, and buy EPs via our Bandcamp!

Thank you for this interview and see you very soon!

Thanks for your time!
