Dino Skatepark talk about their latest release “East Quogue”!

I got the chance to talk to the pop-punk band Dino Skatepark. Learn more about their latest single, “East Quogue”, as well as their upcoming release, set to be out later this month!

Dino Skatepark

Hello, Dino Skatepark, thanks for taking time to answer a few questions for Distrolution! Could you please, as a start, list all your band members, as well as their roles in the band?

Dylan Belpanno – Vocals
Conor Franzone – Guitar
Frank Caputo – Guitar/Saxophone
Jackie Weinberger – Trumpet
Joe Quinn – Drums
Kieran Franzone – Bass/Backing Vocals

There’s so many metalcore bands around the world. According to you, what do you think sets your band apart from all the other bands in your genre? (Note: When I sent this interview to the guys, I had spent my whole day working on many interviews. I knew that they were a pop-punk band, but I guess that I was really tired when I wrote “metalcore”. The band’s answer was quite funny though, so I decided to keep it!)

We only had one scream for about 2 seconds in our first EP, and it’s probably not enough to qualify us to become a metalcore band. Even, if it did that particular scene wouldn’t really like us, we’re too ‘pop-punk’ and ‘ska’ for them. As far as this weird ‘alternative, pop-punk, ska’ sound we have thanks to our instrumentation, we think our sound is something unique that hasn’t been heard yet but combines so many elements from other genres of music, it makes it easy for us to stand out because we want to be something new.

You recently stated that you’ve finished recording four new songs that will be released throughout the course of the next few months with music and lyric videos. Can you tell us more about it?

The next few songs being released are songs we’ve been playing for a while now. We wanted to get ourselves into the studio and put together new music aside from our EP. Each song differs from each other and go their own way but, they all somehow manage to connect together. They’re kind of an experiment that helped us hone in on our sound and how much we can do with our choices in instrumentation.

The first song “East Quogue” was released this past June. Could you please introduce this song to our readers?

This song is a very upbeat, with multiple layers to listen out for instrumentally, and rapidly changing while its lyrical content pertains to toxic relationships and the toll they take on people in them.

Why did you pick this track as the first song to be released? Is it, according to you, the song that best reflects the spirit of your upcoming releases?

‘East Quogue’ was our first song we written and performed after the 2017 EP release. It kind of felt like the first “real” Dino Skatepark song. From the instrumentals to the lyrics everything meshed together so well so quickly it inspired us to write more. This is us putting our best foot forward and progressing as a band to what we are now. We feel like the energy and writing style heavily reflect what’s to come from us.

Are you happy with the feedback you received so far from both your fans and the media?

So far we’ve been very pleased with our feedback on ‘East Quogue’. We’ve received more positive reactions than expected, and any criticisms have been purely constructive which is greatly appreciated and helps us a lot in terms of how we can make everything better for future writing and recording process.

The last words are for you. If you have a message for your fans, here’s your chance!

We all want to give sincere thanks to everyone who has taken the time to listen to us or attend one of our shows. We hope you will enjoy everything being released in the coming months as much as we’ve had writing and performing! Also to keep an eye and ear out for our next release Boogieman coming out later this month!
