Wild Noblesse are an alternative rock band from Toulouse, France. I actually met vocalist Jack for the first time in February 2017 in Toulouse. I unfortunately didn’t have enough time to talk to him in person, which is why I thought that it’d be a great idea to introduce them properly to Distrolution’s readers! Learn more about the band, as well as their recent releases below 🙂
Hello Jack, thank you so much for taking time to answer a few questions for Distrolution. First of all, could you please introduce yourself, as well as your band to our readers? Thanks for having us! I’m Jack, guitarist / lead singer of Wild Noblesse, an alternative rock trio from Toulouse, France. Donovan (bass, vocals) & Chris (drums, vocals) compose the other two thirds.
Defining the sound of a band is always challenging, let’s try anyway: we do mainstream songs with unusual arrangements, while singing harmonies all together.
Your EP ‘MMXVII’ is out since July 28th 2017. First of all, what does it actually represent to you? Secondly, for those who haven’t heard it yet, what kind of songs can they expect? We are so proud of ‘MMXVII’ (2017) because most of the songs inside were written years ago, and at that time we never thought we would release anything!
I believe MMXVII is eclectic. “Standard” and “The American Way” bring a power pop flavor, while some other tracks are more alternative rock-inspired, like “Chainsaws”. And the last song “Pillars of Creation” provides an instrumental and space/post-rock ending to the EP.
Do you have a personal favorite song on this record? Mine would probably be ‘Chainsaws’. I would stick to “Pillars of Creation”. I love when rock goes atmospheric/ambient, such as bands like Maybeshewill or Oceansize oftentimes do. Plus it’s a great song to play live, it gets more and more energetic as the outro approaches.
Can we talk about your first music video for single ‘Standard’? It was released one month ago and has already received some good feedback, right? How was the shooting experience? That’s right, we are amazed to see all these positive comments since the release of the music video! Lionel (director / K-Rib Vision) did a tremendous job, in a very short time (a 5-hour shooting).
Shooting went so well that our second music video is going to be directed by the same team including Robert Harold, a talented young director. You can expect a release by the first quarter of 2018.
Last but not least. There’s a lot of alternative rock bands in your country. What do you think sets you apart from all the other French bands? I guess the way we try to optimize what we can do as a three-piece band makes the difference. I add layers of keyboard while playing guitar (as soon as my left hand is available!), and Chris & Don surround the lead singing by nice harmonies. In addition, I also use open tunings on almost half of the songs, which allows to mix the efficiency of power chords with melodic riffing on top. And I guess that using these odd rhythm signatures also makes our style easily identifiable.
The band’s second music video will be out early 2018. You should definitely keep an eye on them!
