Doomy noise punk trio WOORMS will release, on June 26th 2018, a 7” split release with hardcore thrashers A HANGING. Thanks so Joey CARBO, learn more about the band and their upcoming release below!
Hello Woorms. Hope you’re doing great? First of all, thanks for taking time to chat with me. For those who are not familiar with your band, could you please introduce yourselves, as well as your roles in Woorms? Thanks for the opportunity. We are:
Joey Carbo – guitars, vocals, noise, other stuff on recordings like samples, some keys, synth, and different sound treatments.
John Robinson – basses. We say basses because our recordings are layered heavily with clean, fuzzed, and effected basses, all blended.
Aaron Polk – drums, percussion
You guys have not been active for a long time, as you “only” formed in 2017. How did your debut as a band go? I started this band in like early 2017 and used to have entirely different members. It took a year or so for me to find the right guys for this but I definitely have! Since it has been the three of us for the past several months, things have really moved forward at a fast pace and we are being received very well.
You’ll soon drop a 7” split release with A Hanging. How did you guys meet and decide to work together on a release? We’ve all known Bobby for over 20 years because of his magazine, Paranoize, and because of his work in the scene and in other bands he was in. The three of us (WOORMS) have also known one another and played with each other’s bands since the late 90’s. We had just never worked together before now.
I know that you are also currently working on your debut LP. Is there anything you could share with our readers? What kind of songs can we indeed expect on this upcoming release? The record should be reflective of what the 2017 demos sounded like, but with all pro production. A few songs fans will recognize, with some twists, and then more songs that are new and a couple we’ve never even played live. Also, a few more noise/sample/confusion tracks, some of the best I’ve ever done. The visual presentation of this LP should also be very pleasing. The cover art and layout are done by some amazing guys and it will be a beautiful product.
Last but not least, what would you say has been the biggest highlight of your band’s career so far? It hasn’t been a long road yet. I think we’ve only played a dozen shows, at most. We followed Monte Luna for a short leg of their recent tour and that was probably the best thing so far. I can’t say enough good things about that band and those guys.
Also, we were very honoured to have Mow Skwoz do the cover art for the single. She is amazing and we didn’t feel worthy of that. Fans can consistently expect great cover art for our releases.
Thanks for your time! Thank you for taking an interest. We hope everyone loves the new record!
